On Monday night, April 17th, the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Brooklyn Nets 94 – 88 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The 76ers now take a 2 game lead in their best of 7 series against the Nets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
Right after the game concluded, NBA MVP candidate Joel Embiid of the 76ers pumped his fists up in the air in jubilation as they won the game. Embiid didn’t quite show out offensively like he did in the regular season, only scoring 20 points, which is well below his NBA regular season average of 33.1 points per game.
Although Embiid’s offense didn’t quite translate and make an impact on the game, his defensive prowess and all around ability on the court inspired his teammates to put on a show for the fans and showcase a lot of effort. His teammate, Tyrese Maxey, scored 33 points and carried the 76ers offensively last night.
“A lot of people think I just love scoring the basketball,” Embiid said. “I don’t think it’s true. I enjoy winning.” The third-seeded Sixers anticipate making a deep playoff run in part due to Embiid’s growing confidence in his teammates. Only time will tell how this up and coming team will face the numerous challenges that lay ahead, but one thing for certain is that they will always show their full commitment and passion to try and win games.
