The Academy Awards, known as the Oscars, is one of the most honored events in the film industry. The Oscars have recognized the talent, hard work, and dedication of actors, directors, producers who have contributed to the art and craft of filmmaking.

It all began in the late 1920s when the Academy Awards was born. Those awards were Invented by Louis B. Mayer. Mayer wanted to create an award ceremony that would showcase the best and brightest talent in the film industry and promote the art of cinema to a wider audience.

The first Oscar ceremony took place on May 16, 1929, at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. The ceremony was a relatively compact event, attended by just little over 200 guests. The winners were announced in advance, and the ceremony lasted just 15 minutes.

Throughout history, the Academy Awards have evolved in terms of categories being awarded to the ceremony itself which is watched by millions all over the world. There are 24 categories in film making that are awarded each year. However, the most important categories are best film, best actor/actress and best director.

In addition to the Oscars awarded to the best in each of the 24 categories, this event remains the epitome of glamor where famous actors and influencers in the industry make memorable appearances on the red carpet showcasing the best in fashion and jewelry.  This red carpet appearance has become as much a part of the ceremony as the awards themselves.
