Qatar vs Ecuador: opening game for world cup, Ecuador beat Qatar hosts

With two goals from striker Enner Valencia, Ecuador easily defeated World Cup hosts Qatar, 2-0 on Sunday, handing the hosts their first ever loss in the tournament’s opening match.

The all-time leading scorer for Ecuador, known as “Superman” at home, gave the South Americans a commanding lead in the first. half as the Qataris were overcome by the magnitude of the event. He scored an early penalty and added a well-taken header.
As It Was Valencia, 33, had a third-minute header disallowed for a slight offside after goalkeeper Saad Alsheeb flapped at the ball, which could have made things worse for the hosts in front of a 67,372 crowd at the Al Bayt stadium.
