The Chinese equivalent of the presidential cabinet is the Politburo Standing Committee.
It is regarded as the elite of the elite within the party, and ascending to the top frequently calls for skillful management of internal rivalry in addition to a distinguished record in politics.
After a term expires, the Standing Committee frequently undergoes significant reorganizations, and this time is no exception.
With the exception of Zhao Leji and Wang Huning, they were all essentially hand-picked by President Xi Jinping. Most, if not all, are perceived as being Xi supporters.
