Burkina Faso missing miners: Four dead bodies found
By Mia Stevens
Rescue teams have discovered the remains of four of the eight miners trapped below in Burkina Faso after a frantic day-and-night search that lasted more than a month.
“Many people are crying, and everyone is sad,” Bama Antoine, a representative for the families, told the BBC.
“Hope is no longer with us,” he continued.
They were working at the Perkoa zinc mine when they were caught by floodwaters at a depth of almost 520 meters.
A forensic doctor is on the scene to assist in the identification of the four males.
According to Mr. Bama, the remains were discovered in caverns near a rescue chamber that was unsealed last week.
After none of the miners were discovered alive in the safety room, which is around 570 meters below the earth, hopes that they would be recovered alive dwindled.
