Leclerc Leads 1-2 for Ferrari in Bahrain Grand Prix

By Aarja Mody

Charles Leclerc won the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix, while Carlos Sainz completed a Ferrari one-two — but Red Bull suffered a double DNF, giving Lewis Hamilton the last podium spot in a remarkable start to the season.

Verstappen, who started second, attempted to undercut Ferrari’s pole-sitter Leclerc on Lap 15, trimming a 3.5s deficit to 0.35s before Leclerc took the lead on Lap 16. This sparked a three-lap boxing match for the lead, with Leclerc holding on after Verstappen locked up into Turn 1 on Lap 19.
