F1 2022 Begins
By Aarja Mody
This weekend will be the start of the 2022 F1 season. Saturday the 19th is qualifying and Sunday, race day is the 20th. Max Verstappen won the 2021 world championship in Abu Dhabi.
Though this year, the racing weekend will be tweaked a bit. Traditionally, teams would send the majority of their crew to the track on Thursday morning, with media obligations taking up a significant portion of the day.
The pre-race driver news conference, which was scheduled for Friday morning last year and had all 20 drivers speaking in pairs over a four-hour period, has been rescheduled.
The Team Principals’ press conference, which had been scheduled for Friday between practice sessions, will instead take place on Saturday, 1.5 hours before FP3.
The final practice will be the first F1 track action on Saturday, followed by qualifying a few hours later.
