According to a statement from the FBI’s Denver Field Office, Brian Laundrie claimed responsibility for Gabby Petito’s death in a notebook entry last Friday.
The notebook was found in October, along with Laundries remains. His family was told that he shot himself in the head, ruling his death as suicide.
The families of Petito and Laundrie agreed to distribute their belongings. The Laundrie family attorney, Steve Bertolino, would not disclose which family was to receive the notebook.
The FBI claimed that the investigation into Petito’s death would be “closed in the near future.”
FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider said in a statement that the investigation did not identify any other besides Brian Laundrie who was directly involved in the case of Gabby Petito.
A statement from Petito’s lawyer claimed that the family was thankful for the support given by the FBI.
The statement included: “We truly appreciate the FBI’s diligent and painstaking efforts in this extremely complicated case. The quality and quantity of the facts and information collected by the FBI leave no doubt (that) Brian Laundrie murdered Gabby.”
