Microsoft to buy gaming company Activision Blizzard for $70 billion

Yesterday, Microsoft announced intentions to purchase Activision Blizzard for $69 billion. The decision will be finalized by 2023. Microsoft will now acquire popular game titles such as Overwatch, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft. Microsoft believes that it will support them in growing their gaming industry across mobile, PC, and console platforms, as well as supplying foundations for the metaverse.
Activision has some of the most popular titles in the world, ranging from Overwatch to World of Warcraft, 400 million monthly active players across over 100 countries. Activison also has about 10,000 employees across its worldwide studios, however, the company has been dealing with accusations of harassment in the workplace.
Microsoft later stated that they plan to implement Activision’s games in their Game Pass subscription service.
