After a dramatic end to the F1 season this year, there have been talks about the current Formula 1 race director not having a very long future in this position anymore. Michael Massi made the decision to not finish this thrilling season with all drivers behind a safety car, which many of the fans have agreed with. However, this decision led to Max Verstappen overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the last lap for the championship win.
After many controversies, fans from all over the sport have been arguing on whether this was just. Afterall, Lewis Hamilton had been leading the entire race. Although, some of the fans argue he should have won, the majority agrees that this is motorsports. Things happen and if Hamilton could not defend the lead during the last lap, then he did not deserve to win.
Mercedes have shown their anger towards the decision, but Verstappen is Formula 1’s 2021 champion. There have been many talks about Mr Massi not being the race director anymore due to such divided opinions on the matter. However, nothing has been confirmed.
For Lewis, he stated that he is disgusted by the decision made, and that his respect for the sport has greatly decreased. Some are even suggesting that he has been thinking of leaving the sport for good.
With such a thrilling season and Max Verstappen showing what he could achieve in a car that can compete with the Mercedes, many of the fans cannot wait to see them both on track again for the 2022 season.
