Deforestation in the Amazon has increased by 22 percent, during cop 26 Brazil was one of the few countries who ‘promised to end and reverse deforestation’.
This is the fourth year in a row that deforestation has risen, over 5,000 square miles of rainforest has been lost from August 2020 to July 2021.
Brazil is facing this problem because of government policies pursuing road expansion, dam building, and increasing agricultural land.
