Investigators Track Down Cleveland Bank Teller Who Stuffed $215K Into a Paper Bag and Vanished 52 Years Ago.
In Cleveland, Theodore John Conrad went to work as a bank teller. Authorities say the then-20-year-old grabbed $215,000 at the end of his shift, threw it into a paper bag, and then vanished.
According to the US Marshals Service, he stole the equivalent of $1.7 million today in one of the city’s largest bank robberies in July 1969.
The federal law enforcement agency announced Friday that it had identified the guy considered one of the country’s most sought fugitives, more than five decades later.
