By: Braden Gerow, Staff Reporter, The Pawprint

  1. The Addams Family (2019) – Amazon & Hulu

They’re spooky and disturbing, but they’re also a lot of fun. This animated version of the Addams family also resembles the classic Charles Addams cartoons. When it’s finished, you may watch the road-trip sequel, which was released on October 1st.

  1. Goosebumps (2015) – Amazon & Itunes

Jack Black reprises his role as R.L. Stine in a film based on Stine’s best selling horror series. The plot incorporates many things that parents recall from the books and weaves them into a new scenario. In 2018, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween was released.

  1. Hotel Transylvania (2012) – Amazon & Itunes Image

When a human discovers Dracula’s remote resort for monsters and other supernatural creatures, drama and laughter erupt. Because the film is told from the perspective of the monsters, they appear to be the good guys. And, if your family enjoys it, there are two sequels on the way, as well as a fourth film coming out this winter.

  1. Frankenweenie (2012) – Amazon & Disney+

Director Tim Burton’s black-and-white stop-motion film offers a fresh take on the famous Frankenstein myth. The young scientist in this film resurrects a pet dog instead of a human subject.

  1. Coraline (2009) – Amazon & Itunes

This disturbing film, based on the 2002 children’s book, teaches children to be cautious about what they wish for. Coraline is a young girl who uncovers an unnerving secret about a parallel dimension where an alternate version of her family tempts her with huge promises in the stop-motion animated picture. Naturally, this ostensibly superior reality proves to be more deadly than anticipated.

  1. Monster house (2006) –  Amazon & Netflix

Three friends find their neighbor’s house is a living, breathing monster, and they must figure out how to stop it before the neighborhood can no longer be recovered.

  1. Matilda (1996) – Amazon

Matilda is a talented young lady who lives with obnoxious parents and attends a school where the principal insults her classmates. Matilda discovers she possesses exceptional abilities and utilizes them to defend herself against the terrible individuals in her life.

  1. Casper (1995) – Amazon

Kathleen Harvey, the daughter of ghost therapist Dr. James Harvey, is played by Christina Ricci, who was virtually the It Girl of classic ghoul flicks as a kid. The kindest ghost of all time recruits her to assist him with some unfinished business.

  1. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) – Amazon

The debate over whether Tim Burton’s pioneering stop-motion animated film is a Halloween or Christmas film is always raging. The answer is that you should watch it every year from October through December.

  1. Ghostbusters (1988) – Amazon

Who do you call when you want to watch a movie with your family that is equally heavy on the jokes as it is on the scares? After seeing the original, see the sequel with the same cast, the all-female reboot starring Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, or the decades-later Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which will be released in November 2021.
