Agnes Tirop, Kenyan world record holder, has been found stabbed to death in her home in the Western town of Iten.
Tirop set the record for a women’s only 10km race in Germany last month.
Police have now launched a criminal investigation, with her husband now missing. He is currently being treated as a suspect in the case.
Tom Makori, head of police in the area, said, “When [police] got in the house, they found Tirop on the bed and there was a pool of blood on the floor”.
“They saw she had been stabbed in the neck, which led us to believe it was a knife wound, and we believe that is what caused her death”.
Police officials are still investigating the motive and who was behind Tirop’s murder.
