YouTube cancels YT Rewind
By Alessandro Pellegrino
As confirmed by the Tubefilter site, YouTube has decided to eliminate Rewind entirely, replacing it with ‘other experiences’.
According to the company part of the Alphabet group, the platform has reached such a considerable number of videos, famous and not, that it would be too complex to summarize the annual trend in a video of a few minutes. as happened in the past. Instead, Google will rely on creators such as MrBeast and Slayy Point to produce year-end videos and promote them through social networks. Users should access, by December, a new summary tool with annual trends, as well as an interactive mini-site with the promoted content.
The rewind function had never been well taken by navigators. Debuting in 2010, it had remained popular for much of its history as a snapshot of what happened in the previous 12 months. A lot has changed in 2018, with the related video becoming the one with the most ‘dislikes’ of the entire platform: 19 million ‘dislikes’, compared to only 3 million likes. In 2019, editorial control was replaced by statistics, to more concretely reflect the numbers obtained by the various creators.
