It has been estimated that at least 116 people have died in a fight between rival gangs in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Approximately 5 inmates have been decapitated in Tuesday’s clash, whilst others were shot dead.

Local media report that the uprising was commissioned by Mexican drug trafficking gangs that are now operating within the country.

The Litoral Penitentiary House in Ecuador is considered one of the most dangerous prisons in the world.

Police commander Fausto Buenaño says the prisoners also threw grenades. It took 400 officers to regain control.
