US citizens, Victor and Cynthia Liu, banned from leaving China for the last three years have been allowed to go home.
Along with their mother, they were accused of ‘economic crimes’ while on a visit to China.
This coincides with the high-profiel release of tech executive Meng Wanzhou and two Canadians this weekend.
In the past, critics have accused China of ‘hostage diplomacy’, which is the use of ordinary citizens as a political bargain.
