A spokesperson for the Taliban said that they have hung the bodies of four alleged kidnappers in public areas of Herat.
The display came after a warning that gruesome punishments such as executions and amputations would resume.
The men accused of kidnapping a businessman and his son were killed in a crossfire.
Afghani residents said a body was hung from a crane in the city center.
Local shopkeeper, Wazir Ahmad Seddiqi, said that four bodies were brought to the square. One was hung and three were moved around the city to be showcased.
