A new government has been formed in Lebanon, to help end the year-long power vacuum since the August 2020 Beirut port blast. Prime Minister Najib Mikati was elected and will lead a new cabinet of ministers which will aim to conduct the country’s economic depression.
After visiting President Michel Aoun at the Baabda Presidential Palace, Mikati addresses the nation stating he would try to “stop the country’s collapse.”
The new government includes George Qiradhi, a previous television host of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” and the prior director of financial operations at Lebanon Central Bank, Yousuf Khalil.
In an emotional speech Mikati says, “The situation is difficult, it is very difficult,” and “however it is not impossible if we unite … our priority is to appease the suffering of the Lebanese people.” He also adds, “I won’t spare an opportunity to open doors with the Arab world. Today Lebanon is in need of the Arab world.”
The new change of government serves as an effort to improve the county’s economic crisis and downfall of society.
