Daniil Medvedev brought his “A” game to the finals of the US Open and beat Djokovic in three straight sets. After an incredible season this year 2021, winning all the Slams of the calendar so far, he was about to become the first player in 70 years to win all Slams. Unfortunately, The number 1 ranked player in the world, was feeling very frustrated and it was just a matter of time before his racket almost broke in half. The crowd, knowing what would have happened if he had won, showed great sportsmanship and were cheering for him. When Daniil was offered to give a speech after receiving the cup of the US Open, he mentions “Sorry for your fans and Novak because we all know what he was going for. What you have accomplished in your career, for me, you are the greatest tennis player in history. ” Novak Djokovic then congratulated the 25 year old winner and said that if anyone deserved to win a grand slam it was him. So, after much frustration from the legend, there was still much respect and great sportsmanship to be seen between the two finalists.
