Australian driver, Daniel Ricciardo, won the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in a stunning McLaren one-two.
The victory was Ricciardo’s first since leaving Redbull. He last won a race in 2018. It was long anticipated for McLaren too, with their last win being in 2012.
“About time”, smiled the happy driver before performing his trademark ‘Shoey’ by chugging the podium champagne from his sweaty shoe and sharing it with second-placed teammate Lando Norris and McLaren’s boss Zak Brown.
Ricciardo, whose seven other wins were all with Red Bull, started in second and seized the lead from ex-teammate and friend, Verstappen, at the start of the race. He even scored a bonus point for fastest lap and was voted Driver of the Day by fans.
“For anyone who thought I’d left, I never left,” he said over the radio as he drove past the chequered flag. “I just moved aside for a while.”
