This number of deaths is the second highest in the world, experts say that this could get worse till the start of winter due to slow vaccinations. Jair Bolsonaro, the President of Brazil refuses to back safety measures such as social distancing and most importantly he has doubts about the vaccines, causing the virus to spread rapidly.
Only 15% of adults in Brazil are vaccinated, the health institute Fiocruz says that these conditions are “critical”. Congress is now investigating how Brazil is handling the pandemic, the president has been criticized for not organizing and attempting a national response to the virus. He’s been heavily criticized for the lack of masks, social distancing, lockdowns and the lack of vaccines.
The president has been accused of delaying vaccine purchases for political purposes, since he has continuously downplayed the seriousness of the pandemic.
