UK descends into new lockdown

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced last night that another lockdown will take place and is expected to last until at least mid-February.
In his announcement, the PM said that the hospitals are under “more pressure from Covid than at any time since the start of the pandemic”, and that the coming weeks would be the “hardest yet”. With a total of 58,784 cases on Monday, some would say the lockdown is long overdue.
Although the rule only officially passes in the early hours of Wednesday, Johnson urges people to stay home and follow the rules anyway. Schools will be closed, and people will only be allowed to leave their houses for a handful of reasons, a few of them being medical emergencies, grocery shopping, and work that cannot be done at home. Schools will be shit until at least half term, with the situation being reevaluated at that point.
The new lockdown also raises concerns about school exams, with the possibility of A-levels and GCSEs being cancelled yet again.
