As Twitter added a fact-check label to some of Trump’s posts, he has threatened to regulate or even shut down social media companies in his tweets by claiming that mail-in voting leads to vote fraud.
“Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservative voices. We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen,” Trump stated in a series of tweets.
However, legal experts say that his options may be limited. His options include pushing for new legislation and forcing US regulators to sue the companies. Although, none of these strategies guarantee to achieve what he is threatening to do.
More importantly Trumps would not have the votes to get legislation passed in Congress. However, Trump’s threat to close down platforms like Twitter and Facebook is the strongest yet to the Big Tech firms.
