The White House stated that America and Great Britain had the victory over the Nazis on May 8, 1945 a statement that angered the other countries involved in WWII, especially the Russians or the Soviets as they were then.
Both Instagram and Twitter accounts of the White House mentioned: “On May 8, 1945, America and Great Britain had victory over the Nazis! America’s spirit will always win. In the end, that’s what happens.”
The contribution of the USSR was not even mentioned as if World War II was a war only between the United States, Britain and Germany.
Even though the whole world was involved and especially the Soviet soldiers who lost over 25 million soldiers in the struggle. This is in contrast to the British and Americans who lost 450,700 and 418,500 respectively.
