The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has stated that quarantining the state would be foolish.
This decision was made after discussions with the White House Coronavirus Task Force and the Governor of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The president tweeted that in order to escape the quarantine, “a strong travel advisory” would be published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Andrew Cuomo, governor of New York, commented on the decision saying that a lockdown would be unnecessary and “Anti-American”. He said that they have already employed all the measures needed in order to prevent the spread of the disease. Quarantining New York would make it Wuhan and “that wouldn’t make any sense,” Andrew Cuomo told CNN. Moreover, the lockdown would make it hard for the economy of the United States to recover for many months or maybe even years.
At the moment there are more than 52,000 cases of COVID-19 in New York, which is almost half of the cases in the US.
