Dutch striker, Hans Hateboer, scored two goals as Atlanta beat Valencia 4-1 in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. The substitute, Denis Cheryshev, scored the consolation goal for Valencia in the 66th minute to give the Spanish side some hope for the second game back in Spain. This is Atalanta’s first season in the Champions League after a surprising third place in Serie A last year. The second leg will be played at Mestalla, Valencia on the 10th of March.
Atalanta hosts Sassuolo in Serie A on Sunday, while Valencia visits Real Sociedad in La Liga a day earlier.
