A new technology that charges electric vehicles on the go is now tested in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced. This power-charging grid, underneath a 60-meter road strip at the Dubai Silicon Oasis, has made the dynamic wireless charging of electric vehicles and buses in motion possible.
The project is one of the RTA’s initiatives to promote the use of environmentally-friendly transport. It also solves the problem with the need for remote static charging stations and replaces them with charging infrastructure embedded in the road or highway system.
This innovation was born out of collaboration of RTA with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) and Dubai Silicon Oasis using the Shaped Magnetic Field In Resonance (SMFIR) technology.
