Belize Vaamonde, Staff Reporter- The Pawprint
Jorge Lopez is one of the new teachers this semester. He is a high school science teacher, now teaching chemistry. Get to know all about Mr.Lopez in a brief interview.
Where did you work /live before?
“Before I came here I lived in Oman. Before that I have worked in Spain, The UK, Portugal, Canary Islands and Malaysia.”
Why did you come to dubai and DAA? What is your impression of Dubai and Daa so far?
“We came to Dubai mainly to have a baby. We wanted to move here because we knew Dubai and, we thought moving here was easy as well. I had heard of DAAs good reputation and so it being one of the best schools in Dubai made me come here. My impression of this school so far is positive. It is a nice place to work with nice students and staff.”
How did you get into teaching, have you always wanted to be a teacher?
“Both my parents were teachers and more of my family. My father also owned a private school. So teaching has always been in the back of my mind. I tried doing many things but never really enjoyed any job. I started teaching at 28 so I had time to do a lot of things before going into teaching.”
If you weren’t a teacher what else would you be and why?
“I honestly don’t know, I don’t see myself doing anything else.”
What made you want to teach science?
“I studied biology, I always liked it and I’ve always been a bit of a nerd.”
What is the most challenging part of being a teacher?
“I guess managing behavior.”
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
“I would like to travel to Australia and South America. I haven’t really discovered those parts yet, and there is a lot to explore there. Plus I have friends there, I’d like to visit.”
Do you have any interesting hobbies/passions?
“Yes I have a lot of them like skydiving, snowboarding, scuba diving, motor cross, motor bike racing, surfing, free climbing and magic.”
What is something crazy on your bucket list you have always wanted to do?
“I want to compete in a car rally.”
