On 14 May, Kurtis Kaser, a sixty-three-year-old farmer, cut off his own leg with a pocket knife to save his life in Pender, Iowa. According to the farmer, he was in the process of moving crops, when he mistakenly stepped into a running machine, causing his leg to get stuck.
The sixty-three-year-old explained the fear he felt during the incidence, “…I didn’t know what to do. No one was around me so I couldn’t ask for help. I almost gave up. Whatever happens, happens, then immediately I thought of my pocket knife, started cutting and called 911.”
After some time, helicopters reached his farm and rushed Kaser to the hospital.
