A chemical plant in eastern China exploded on Thursday and killed 64 people and injuring over 90 others. Firefighters put out the small fires on Friday after working the entire night to extinguish the main blaze.
According to local authorities, dozens of firetrucks and hundreds of firefighters were sent to the scene after the blast, recording to have been around 2 PM. The explosion was powerful so powerful that the seismological bureau was able to detect a small earthquake in the area, according to state media.
The chemical causing the explosion was benzene, which is a highly flammable and toxic compound, and heavy winds on Thursday created an environment for the toxic air to dissipate.
