A US astronaut capsule has returned to Earth after a successful demonstration. The capsule left the International Space Station after a week and re-entered the atmosphere without issues. 4 parachutes aided in a landing that came in “soft contact” with water 450 km from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
A dummy with sensors was used to test if the capsule was suitable for astronauts. NASA hopes to send American astronauts into orbit as soon as July.
“It was an incredible journey to get to this moment,” said Benjamin Reed, the director of crew management at SpaceX. “The teams have just done an amazing job- both the SpaceX and the NASA teams jointly.”
