Venezuela Supreme Court Judge Escapes to U.S
A Venezuelan Supreme Judge Christian Zerpa has fled to the United States to show his opposition to President Maduro’s manipulation of the affairs of the Venezuelan judiciary.
After his escape, he was interviewed by a Miami broadcaster, where he stated that the 2018 election in Venezuela “was not free and competitive” and that the Supreme Court is an “appendage of the executive branch.
This is a surprising move from the former judge, as he was one of the crucial allies of Maduro in his ascension to the Venezuelan presidency, which was shown by him writing a legal opinion justifying the President’s decision to strip the Venezuelan congress of many of its powers.
