Bluebottle Jellyfish Causes 13,000 Stings in a Week

On January 6th, a large amount of jellyfish have been pushed close to the shore of the beaches in Queensland, Australia. About 13,000 stings were recorded in the past year forcing the closure of swim spots.

A jellyfish expert, Dr Lisa-Ann Gershwin, said it was unusual to see such a number of bluebottle jellyfish, and that it was caused by the strong winds and heat spells. Bluebottle stings are not life-threatening, however, the Surf Life Saving Queensland forced the closure of busy beaches.
