Main migrant shelter in Tijuana closed
A sports complex that was being used to temporarily house more than 5,000 migrants in Tijuana has been closed due to poor sanitary conditions, according to a statement released from the office of Juan Manuel Gastélum, Tijuana’s mayor.
Since Thursday, Mexican officials have been transferring migrants to a new shelter- one with better accommodation- in the eastern part of the city in an area known as El Barretal.
“Migrants will have a roof and a dry floor to sleep on tonight,” tweeted researcher Jonathan Pedneault, “but 45 minutes from the border.”
