Argentine submarine found after been missing for over a year
An Argentine submarine with 44 crew members was found on Saturday a year after it had gone missing. The ARA San Juan was found 870 meters down on the ocean after it had suffered an implosion.
The ARA San Juan went missing last year on November 15 halfway through its journey from Ushuaia to Mar del Plata. Shortly before the last contact with the submarine, the captain of the vessel had reported a short circuit in the vessel’s battery system.
The short circuit was caused by seawater entering the vessels snorkel. Argentina’s first female submarine officer Eliana Maria Krawczyk was lost among the other officers on the vessel.
