This year’s Ballon d’Or will mark the 10th year anniversary of the intense battle of Ballon D’ors between Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, and FC Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi.
However, both players have indeed been playing well in terms of their standards, a lot of other players have been in the spotlight of Ronaldo and Messi’s position in goals, awards, and personal achievements. Individual talents like UEFA’s Best Men Player, Luka Modric, and Best young player, Kylian Mbappe have a high chance of snatching this year’s Ballon d’Or.
If so they win this year’s Ballon D’or or anyone else besides those two mentioned before, this will end the decade battle of Ballon D’ors between Ronaldo and Messi for the first time in 10 years. The three favorites to win this year’s Ballon d’Or are Messi, the Phenomenon, Modrić, the Creator, and Ronaldo, the Finisher.
In 2018, Lionel Messi has scored a whopping 18 goals with 6 assists in 24 games. Messi was always a favorite to win the Ballon d’Or every year since 2007, as his performance on the pitch is absolutely stunning. However, recently, Messi hasn’t received much credit for FC Barcelona’s title success and leading Argentina towards the playoff stage. With Messi not even being voted towards the three finalists in the UEFA’s Best Men Award angered fans and questioned UEFA’s decision, which came as far as speculating into the company is a fraud.
Despite his lack of individual awards this year, Messi makes everything up with his absurd amount of goals scored and assists made in both La Liga Santander, Copa del Rey, and UEFA Champions League.
The Croatian midfielder made a big mark towards the football community this year with winning three major individual awards of UEFA’s Best Men Award, UEFA’s Best Midfielder, and Golden Ball in this year’s World Cup taken place in Russia.
Luka Modrić has 2 goals and 3 assists in this season so far. The midfielder doesn’t have much to show with his stats, however, his contribution towards controlling the field with his abilities to provide dribbling skills that provide goals and passing skills that change games. So far, Modrić’s team, Real Madrid aren’t doing so good with their last 4 results being a loss, loss, draw, and loss, which won’t look good towards his chances on snagging his fourth award in 2018.
This year marks a historical transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo switching teams from playing for Real Madrid for 9 years to starting a new path to glory in Juventus FC. The Portuguese player has made a quite an impression towards his Italian fans with astonishing statistics: 10 goals and 4 assists in 18 games. Scoring a Puskas award contender and obtaining an individual award of UEFA’s Best Forward will give Ronaldo a higher advantage towards grabbing his 6th Ballon d’Or, which the battle between Messi will continue with himself having the lead of 6-5.
