With the end of the 2018 World Cup, the countdown of The UEFA European Football Championship 2020 (Euro Cup) starts. Fans from all around the world are eagerly anticipating the next major tournament. While it is always quite difficult to make predictions for the tournament there are many nations that are considered to be among the favorites including, France, Spain, England, Germany, and Belgium. After these nations, you have Portugal, Croatia, and the Netherlands who tend to be behind the favorites but are also favorites for winning the title. As we have seen in previous competitions, big teams can struggle to qualify in major tournaments, as did Germany in the 2018 World Cup.
A 2-year span is enough for the nations to develop the necessary skill level to achieve the title. The latest World Cup proved that anything can happen as we witnessed many of the favorites crash out before the semi-finals. Let’s take a look at the “big 4” that have the biggest chance for winning the Eurocup.
Germany: Germany crashing out of the group stage was the biggest surprise of this year’s World Cup. They were among favorites for the tournament, given that they were defending their 2014 title. The German team will try to redeem themselves at the 2020 Euro – a championship they have failed to win since 1996.
England: After so many disappointing campaigns, England shocked the world entering the World Cup semi-finals. People will say the had an easy draw in the World Cup to qualify for the semi-finals. With a new manager with very high ambitions, England can once again become as successful as their 1966 World Cup team.
Spain: With three consecutive championship titles, the pressure will mount for Spain at the Euro Cup. They won every title in the 2008-2012 era followed by the 2008 EuroCup, 2010 World Cup, and 2012 Euro. However, Spain has crashed early in 2 recent tournaments despite having had a great run in the past.
Belgium: Belgium’s golden generation will have another chance of winning a tournament in the Euro Cup and they are listed as the top favorites on winning it. They had an impressive World Cup performance after beating Brazil and England to reach the semi-finals and although they were defeated by France, Belgium was just as worthy of making the finals.
Despite all the presence of these teams, any team can win the tournament. The draw for the Euro 2020 qualifiers will place in Dublin, Ireland on December 2, 2018.
