Oldest known tree in Europe is growing again
A 1,230 year old pine tree in Italy is now the oldest known tree living to date. It is located on a cliff in Southern Italy, and is bone white. This tree was very difficult to date, as it was not as simple as counting rings, the inside of the wood of this tree was described to be like dust, so the scientists dating it used radiocarbon samples from the roots of the tree to determine when it first started sprouting. It had been seen to grow very slightly over a 4 month period where measurements were taken.
