Shashi Tharoor, a former top UN diplomat and the member of parliamentary of India’s main opposition Congress Party, has been accused in his wife’s death. The Police in Delhi are recommending criminal charges against Tharoor for encouraging his wife Sunanda Puskhar’s suicide in 2014. Puskhar was found dead in her room in a luxury Delhi hotel in 2014, and her death was initially labeled as “unnatural” and “sudden” by doctors. After 4 years of investigation, the Delhi Police concluded that her death was a suicide-and Tharoor is charged with abetment. He has constantly denied the allegations, and the Congress Party stood by him. “We completely reject the charge against Shashi Tharoor,” said Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, “They have hounded him, they have persecuted him, they have maligned him.” The Delhi Police has submitted their investigation results to the court, and the local court is due to consider the case on May 24.
