Cyclone Uncovers Centuries-Old Ship
The powerful bomb cyclone that struck Northeastern US last weekend uncovered the wreckage of the ship that might date back to the 1760s. It was found on Short Sands Beach in Maine, and the local historian Sharon Cummins said that it occassionally appears after a strong storm. According to Leith Smith, an archaeologist in the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, the ship is believed to a part of a coastal trading vessel named “The Industry,” which dates back as far as 1769. Smith said that the wreckage will soon go back under the sands after a month, and the researchers are planning to go through some drone mapping and testing on the ship for more information and discovery.
