South African president, Jacob Zuma stepped down last week Wednesday, as the country’s leader after enormous pressure from his own party.
The African National Congress (ANC) was Jacob Zuma’s party who got him to where he is today but are also the people who told him to step down. They warned him that he would either formally resign or be forced to face a vote of no confidence in parliament. In the 75 year olds resignation speech he acknowledged that he would step down effective immediately but said he disagreed with his parties decision. Zuma came into power in 2009 and has since faced multiple counts of corruption, thus far he has managed to escape any real conviction. However, he has no real protection now and Zuma will have his day in court.
