Wikie, the world’s first talking Killer Whale
Though whales have been known for their impressive communication skills through complex clicks, a recent study on Wikie, a female killer whale at Marineland Aquarium, France proved that whales can have the ability to ‘speak’. Some of the words that can be mimicked from this mammal include ‘hello’ and counting ‘one’ ‘two’ and ‘three’. She learned to speak by copying her trainer and was given a fish or an affectionate pat when she achieved the sound to reinforce the learning. The whale words were also analyzed in waveform and matched the human words when the acoustical recordings were compared.
