Iranian Women Take off Hijab to Protest Veil Law
Iranian women have been taking off their hijab in public, a headscarf required by law to be worn by some Muslim women. Images on social media showed a number of Iranian women taking off their headscarves, holding them on the end of the stick and standing on utility boxes. The protest started by a women named Vida Mohaved, who was arrested on 27 December, 2017 by Iranian authorities. She was followed by a number of other Iranian women protesting the forced hijab. In recent months, the law enforcements have been relaxed, having women with improper head coverings to pay small fine instead of being arrested.
