Cab Driver assaults transport inspector over fine in Abu Dhabi
A cab driver went on trial accused of attacking an inspector from the transport department when he handed him a fine for transporting passengers illegally in the capital. The Abu Dhabi criminal court heard that the inspector had stopped the Pakistani man after spotting him carrying people in a car. When the officer issued a fine for illegally operating as a taxi, the man beat him up and tried to flee the scene. The official sustained minor injuries. The transport department authorities have warned that illegal taxis pose a great danger to safety of commuters as the people driving these cars are unlicensed and might be staying in the country illegally. Those found offering illegal taxi service can be fined 100,000 Dirhams and jailed for up to 30 days.
