Frozen sharks wash up on shores after US East Coast winter storm
Four thresher sharks have washed up on Cape Cod beach in Massachusetts after dying of cold shock following the winter storm. The winter storm has brought unusually low temperatures to areas in the East Coast that are typically warm. According to scientists “threshers become impaired when exposed to waters below 6.7℃”. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) confirmed that the water temperature fell to 2.6℃, and the sharks had to be thawed in order to conduct experiments.
