Sierra Leone Peace Diamond sells for $6.5 million

A 709-carat diamond that was unearthed in Koryardu, Sierra Leone was sold for $6.5 million at a New York auction. The diamond was found by pastor Emmanuel Momoh, and is the 14th largest diamond found in the world. The diamond was sold to Laurence Graff, chairman of Graff diamonds. Half of the proceeds are expected to go towards the improvement of conditions the village it was found in.
