Indian Doctors Fired for Mistakenly Declaring a Newborn Dead
On 30 November, the privately run Max Hospital in Delhi, India fired two doctors for mistakenly declaring an infant dead hours after his still-born twin. On the way to their funeral, the parents found the newborn still alive. According to the twin’s grandfather, the parents noticed their baby squirming inside the plastic bag that the doctors placed their infants in, and they rushed to the nearby hospital which told them that their baby was still alive. This was the second incident where a private hospital in India has been charged of deficiencies of service, and it has sparked a general debate over negligent care of private hospitals throughout the country.
