Discovery of new volcanic rock gives insight to Earth’s evolution
A three billion-year-old piece of volcanic rock was discovered 400km deep in the Earth’s mantle, which is the layer between the crust and the outer core. Its different composition gives new insight into Earth’s evolution. The first one billion years of Earth’s evolution is not entirely known about, as rocks this old are rarely discovered. Scientists state that the rock, with further investigation, will offer new information about the development of our planet as well as the early origins of life.
