This morning (26 October 2017), mourners in Thailand are marking the main part of the five-day funeral ceremony for the country’s late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
He will be laid to rest in a spectacular crematorium complex which has been built for him, over the last year, located just outside the royal palace.
The king died in October 2016 aged 88 with this past year officially declared a year of mourning. He will be cremated this Thursday which has been declared a public holiday.
The king was viewed as a stabilizing figure who has helped this country survive political turmoil and a multitude of coups.
